OUR STORY
A hillside that became home.
Begin the storyA HAVEN OF HEALTH
We came for a week in 1998. We never truly left.
Terri and John Havens fell in love with Cal-a-Vie Health Spa on their first visit: its intimate size, deeply personal program, and quiet California hillside seven miles from the coast.
They became owners on July 1, 2000, and began shaping a vision drawn from family journeys through France, a lifelong passion for historical antiques, and the belief that wellness should feel beautiful, generous, and genuinely cared for.
TERRI & JOHN HAVENS
The couple who shaped the hillside.
What they set out to build was not a conventional resort, but a tranquil and genuinely small home for life-changing wellness experiences. Across 200 acres, lavender, vineyard rows, limestone walls, gardens, and sycamore woodland became a French countryside sanctuary in Southern California.
FRENCH HERITAGE
Four centuries, brought stone by stone.
Historic structures from Burgundy were labeled, transported across the Atlantic, and reconstructed on the estate with their character intact.
-
The Chapel
Originally part of the Convent of the Carmelites in Dijon, the chapel survived the French Revolution before its remaining stonework was carefully numbered and brought to California.
-
L'Orangerie
The limestone greenhouse once sheltered orange trees through Burgundy winters and later served as a gathering hall. Today it welcomes dinners, celebrations, and afternoon light.
-
The Parish House
The priest's residence arrived with antique pine floors, a 16th-century stone fireplace, and roof tiles more than four centuries old. Its reconstruction was completed in 2018.
